Description:
JAMA, June 23/30 2004 - Vol 291, No. 24, page 3016
One of the most comprehensive, up-to-date single reference texts in the field, with little, if anything, to fault.

Review
The individual chapter authors read like a Whos Who of ophthalmology. Each chapter is extensively referenced. The numerous color illustrations are all of excellent quality, particularly evident and valuable in the extensive color retinal photography. Overall, Ophthalmology is one of the most comprehensive and up-to-date single reference texts in the field.--JAMA, June 23/30, 2004Vol 291, No 24Highly commended by the British Medical Association, 2004.This is the most comprehensive one-volume textbook of ophthalmology. The book is superbly structured and comprises 12 parts clearly separated by colour coding; each part covers a varying number of chapters. The illustrations...are unique and homogenous throughout all chapters. One cannot but be impressed by this book's format. There is no doubt that this textbook is of extraordinary quality: an ideal desk reference for the ophthalmologist, an ideal basis for the resident in training in ophthalmology, a "handy library of ophthalmology" in one single book. Graefe's Arch Clin Exp Ophthalmology

Annotation
The book contains predominantly color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations.

From The Critics
Journal of the American Medical Association
Yanoff and Duker have created a useful and readable, yet comprehensive and up-to-date single-volume textbook of ophthalmology. Its price and size make it an excellent choice for residents and for practitioners desiring an organized and readable desktop reference book.

John W. Chandler
This is a comprehensive, multiauthored textbook that uses standardized templates to provide uniform chapter structure throughout the large single volume. The aim is to present ophthalmology in the same context as it is practiced and to integrate basic science and clinical medicine in each section. The editors and contributors have admirably achieved their goals in an impressive fashion. Enough information has been incorporated so this book can serve as a single reference source. The intended audiences include trainees in ophthalmology and general practicing ophthalmologists, as well as physicians in other disciplines. Given the high quality of the book, any physician seeking a source of comprehensive information regarding ophthalmology could benefit from it. The contributors are first rate and have done an outstanding job of writing that enhances the book. This book is large and heavy. It comes with a carrying case, but it is still too heavy to move around. It has a CD-ROM that nicely complements the book. Chapters are color-coded and easy to locate. The photographs and line drawings are plentiful and of superior quality and enhance the text. Although not exhaustive, the references are very useful and current. The index is very helpful and the chapter templates give a nice consistency to the text. This is an excellent, single volume, comprehensive textbook that also includes a CD-ROM. The information is current and the combination of standardized chapter templates along with superb line drawings and photographs make this textbook a leader in the group of books currently available on general, comprehensive ophthalmology.
