Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) are now established as effective treatments for a number of cancers. The Antibody and Vaccine Group, now based in the new Centre for Cancer Immunology, in Southampton has a strong track record in basic and translational immunology including development of therapeutic mAb. Immunomodulatory mAb, such as anti-PD-1 and anti-CTLA-4 constitute a novel class of clinical reagent designed to reinvigorate tumor-specific T cells and promote anti-cancer immunity. Despite unprecedented clinical successes, response rates to such treatments remain modest. Our aim is to develop strategies that augment current immunotherapies by combining it with small molecule compounds targeting GABA receptors. The project aims to understand the role of GABA receptors in anti-cancer immunity and to characterize the role of GABA as an important component of the inhibitory tumor microenvironment. We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow with research experience in biochemical, cell-biological or immunological techniques. The post is full-time and for a fixed term period of 2 years. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent data management, verbal and written communication skills and will be able to work independently, as well as part of a team. For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Yury Bogdanov (y.d.bogdanov@soton.ac.uk). Details about the Cancer Sciences Unit can be found athttp://www.som.soton.ac.uk/research/cancersciences/ |
